Athena is an 11-year-old, 78-pound Great Pyrenees sweetheart with a gentle soul and a love for the simple things in life. If you're looking for a loyal companion who enjoys peaceful days and a daily walk, Athena may be your perfect match.Around the house, Athena is calm, relaxed, and happiest curled up for a nap. She absolutely loves her morning walks—and she'll make sure you don't forget! Every morning she "talks" and howls to let her family know it's time to head out, one of her most lovable and entertaining quirks.Athena is fully house trained and has wonderful manners in the home. She doesn't need a crate and can be trusted to lounge around and sleep while you're away. She knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and shake, walks beautifully on a leash, and rides well in the car. During family meals, she'll happily sit under the table hoping for a little attention, but she's quick to listen if you ask her to move. She has been wonderful with children and currently lives with kids ranging from 4 to 9 years old. She's affectionate in her own quiet way and will gently nudge your hand when she'd like some extra pets.Athena does need the right home when it comes to other animals. She can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, especially larger ones, and has shown aggression toward cats. Because of this, she would do best with an adopter who understands dog reactivity and can continue managing and reinforcing the progress she's already made. She has improved and will respond when redirected by someone she trusts. She has also done well with chickens and can eventually accept some smaller dogs after slow, careful introductions.Athena's ideal home would have a securely fenced yard and a family that enjoys a leisurely morning walk followed by a relaxing day together. She doesn't need hours of exercise—one good walk and she's content to spend the rest of the day snoozing nearby. If you're looking for a loyal, low-key companion with a big personality, adorable morning conversations, and lots of love to give, Athena is ready to find her forever home.Dogs are not placed on a first-come first-serve basis.
