* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, July 25th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event. All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Truffle's journey began when a kind-hearted Good Samaritan spotted this little 10-pound Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix wandering the streets all alone. After taking her in and doing everything possible to find her family, it became clear that no one was coming for her. That's when DPS Rescue stepped in to help this sweet 2 year old find the forever home she truly deserves. From the moment you meet Truffle, you'll understand why everyone falls for her. She may seem a little shy for the first few minutes, but give her 10 to 20 minutes and her true personality shines through. She's affectionate, playful, gentle, and incredibly loyal. Every morning she happily greets her people by standing on her back legs, placing her tiny paws on your legs, and requesting her favorite thing in the world— head and ear scratches. A Well-Mannered Little Housemate Truffle has settled beautifully into foster life and already has the routine down. She wakes up with the family around 8 or 9 in the morning, heads outside for a quick potty break, and then enjoys breakfast (she's not picky at all!). She's also learned an important lesson— if she doesn't finish her meal, her foster dog siblings are more than happy to volunteer as cleanup crew. After breakfast, it's time for playtime and a short walk before she spends the day happily hanging out around the house. She loves tossing her stuffed toys into the air, chewing on a No-Hide or Yak chew, playing with her canine friends, and curling up for cozy naps between adventures. Every few hours she heads outside for a potty break, enjoys dinner in the evening, followed by another leisurely walk. At night you'll usually find her stretched out on the couch beside her family, soaking up affection while everyone watches TV before heading off to her crate around 10 or 11 p.m., where she sleeps quietly through the night. Wonderful with Other Dogs Truffle currently lives with three resident dogs and has been a fantastic addition to the pack. She especially enjoys wrestling and playing with the youngest dog, who happens to be about her age and size, but she's equally respectful of the older senior dogs. She reads social cues well and fits naturally into household life. She has also been wonderful with the teenagers and adults in her foster home. While she hasn't met cats yet, her gentle nature suggests she'd likely appreciate a thoughtful introduction if her future family has feline friends. An Easy Walking Companion If you've been hoping for a dog who enjoys walks without turning them into an upper-body workout, Truffle is your girl. She walks politely on leash without pulling or reacting to other dogs. She's much more interested in strolling alongside you and occasionally stopping to sniff than causing any commotion. She's crate trained overnight and keeps her crate perfectly clean. While she appreciates a gentle invitation (and a couple of treats) before bedtime, she settles quietly and sleeps soundly until morning. Low Maintenance and Full of Love Truffle is a low-shedding little companion who is remarkably easy to live with. She only chews appropriate toys and treats, doesn't dig in the yard, and is generally a quiet dog. The only time you'll usually hear her bark is when the gardener arrives or the garbage trucks rumble by—just enough to let you know someone is outside. Because of her petite size, she'd likely do best in a home with older children who understand how to be gentle with small dogs. Another playful young dog would be a wonderful bonus and would certainly bring out her fun-loving side, but she'd also thrive as the center of attention in a home where someone enjoys playing fetch and sharing lots of cuddles. She's such an easygoing, adaptable little dog that she'd even be a great match for first-time dog owners.
