Phoenix is an aptly named pittie who is the epitome of resilience. She arrived to the Shelter in poor condition â with severe chronic skin & ear infections and overgrown nails. Respectfully, Phoenix was a hot mess. Good news for Phoenix â she had a whole team of Shelter staff ready to help her to start feeling a lot better. Our medical team monitored her care and treatments as she recovered for a month and a half. Animal care and volunteers provided Phoenix with daily enrichment and loving to boost her spirits. Over time, Phoenix has evolved from an âEeyoreâ of a dog to a spirited senior ready to celebrate her golden years with her next adopter. She is easy to leash up and enjoys a casual sniffari. She's met other dogs and has been curious and polite â getting some sniffs in and walking around the exercise yards with them. A home with another dog with a similar energy may be a fit after a meet ân greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Phoenix with cats or children. Phoenix has had a major glow up since her arrival to the Shelter and needs a dedicated adopter who will continue her treatments and care so she continues to improve medically. Adopters should plan on regular vet visits and the associated resources (cost, time, energy, etc) of a dog with chronic skin condition and of senior age. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
