Meet Trifecta â a friendly, enthusiastic Boston terrier bulldog mix gal who doesn't let a missing back leg slow her down! Trifecta arrived as an injured stray with a badly fractured right rear leg. Our medical team performed an amputation of the leg and monitored Trifecta during recovery. This little sparkplug is now ready for her adoptive home. Trifecta has been outgoing, friendly and easy to handle, even while in pain when she arrived. Even with just three legs, she has a fairly high activity level and has some of that intense, drive-y energy of a bulldog/ type. She loves a good game of tug and will appreciate some vigorous play & exercise each day along with positive reinforcement training and puzzle toys at feeding time to keep her brain and little athlete's body engaged! Her amputation mostly means she'll need her guardians' help to keep her weight at a healthy level to avoid over-stressing her remaining limbs and joints, and your vet may recommend healthy supplements or a specific diet to support her joint health over the long term. A home with other animals may be a fit provided any resident dogs meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Her intensity might be `a bit much` for some other pets. A slow introduction with any felines, if any in the home, is recommended as we do not have any history of Trifecta with felines. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
