Dottie Mae was FOUND over a week ago by a citizen who couldn’t keep her due to his own dogs’ hatred of having a visitor at their house. However, he clued us in that she was definitely a lapdog, and following the visit to Altavista Animal Clinic yesterday, we can attest to that. A large lap is preferred, but a small lap will be a good start, in Dottie’s eyes.
Dottie Mae has a rotten tooth. No other way to put it. It’s most likely from chewing on wire which we find many dogs do to escape from confinement. All of her teeth are worn down, but this two year-old has one that is just totally partially broken off and painful. We’ve been treating it with antibiotics for a week until we could get her in for an exam, and the best news of all is that that tooth gets to come out of there on Monday.
Dottie Mae appears to be house trained, and has not met a human she has not liked. That’s the best part about dogs that are well socialized: even though they may not have had the best life, they are grateful and happy for anything they are given. It makes finding a home for them so much easier.
We are enjoying getting to know this beauty who told the person who found her that she would love to be a lap dog! She seems to be fine with other dogs, from all we can see. She made her way to the home of a Campbell County resident and asked for help and he was glad to do that for her. We hope we can find either her owner since she is a very well socialized dog, or a new home when it is time. Dottie Mae needs a home with a loving family, as much as they need her! She adores playing ball in the yard, and has fun whatever she is doing, as long as a family is near by.
