Meet Beau (also known as Stan)!
Beau is a 9-pound Shih Tzu with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Our rescue pulled Beau from one of our shelter partners a few months ago, and during his time in foster care we have learned a great deal about this special little dog.
When Beau arrived at the shelter, he was underweight and severely matted, leading us to believe he may have experienced neglect in his past. Despite his rough start, Beau has shown that he has an incredible capacity for love and devotion once he feels safe and trusts his person.
In his foster home, Beau has formed a strong bond with his foster mom and has shown just how affectionate he can be. He loves to follow her from room to room, snuggle up close, and greet her enthusiastically when she returns home. He's also a curious little guy who enjoys watching the world go by from a windowsill, taking cozy naps, and entertaining everyone with his impressive, buzz-saw-like snoring. Beau enjoys car rides and is housetrained.
Beau does have some behavioral challenges, and we believe in being completely transparent so that he can find the right home. He requires slow, patient introductions to new people and can be wary of strangers until trust is established. Beau is also uncomfortable with people kissing his face or head, and adopters will need to respect this boundary. While he is incredibly loving with the people he trusts, he is still learning to feel comfortable around unfamiliar people, and building his confidence is a work in progress.
