Spoons | 1-year-old Terrier mix | Equal parts love and chaos
Spoons is a 1-year-old, 31-pound Terrier mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He's the kind of dog who will keep you laughing with his quirky antics—whether he's perched on the coffee table like it's his personal lookout tower or watching TV like an iPad kid. Beneath all that silliness is a sweet, affectionate pup whose favorite place is right next to (or on top of) his favorite people.
Spoons is an active young dog who enjoys walks, hikes, games of fetch, and chewing on a favorite toy or Kong. Once he's had enough exercise and mental stimulation, he's more than happy to spend hours curled up snuggling with his people. His love language is definitely physical touch, and he'll often rest his head on you or gently offer his paw when he's ready for some extra affection.
He's making great progress with house training and is nearly there with a consistent routine and regular potty breaks. Right now, he prefers to do his business in a yard rather than on walks, so his ideal home will have a securely fenced yard. Spoons is also a wonderful walking companion - he walks nicely on leash and enjoys outings and short hikes.
Spoons has shown that he can do very well with other dogs when introductions are slow and thoughtful. He enjoys the companionship of calm dogs similar in size, snuggles with his foster's resident dog, and did wonderfully with another dog while staying with a sitter. However, he has developed some generalized reactivity toward unfamiliar dogs in other settings. For example, he may react to dogs on television or even his own reflection in a mirror. His foster is working with a trainer to better understand his triggers and help him build confidence. Despite this, he does not show reactivity to other dogs while out on walks, making those outings a relaxing experience for both him and his foster.
Like many young dogs, Spoons is still learning the rules. He's working on his manners, can be mouthy during play, and likes to test boundaries, but he's making steady progress with consistency and structure. His foster believes he has all the makings of an incredible companion—he just needs someone willing to continue investing in his training.
Spoons' ideal home is with patient, experienced adopters who understand that confidence and good manners take time to build. A home with a small, mature dog could be a wonderful fit, and a securely fenced yard is important while he continues his potty training. Every week his personality shines a little brighter, and while each new stage brings a few new challenges, it also reveals just how funny, loving, and special this little guy truly is.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.
