Meet Otis This sweet little Chihuahua was rescued alongside his buddy Clara Belle after spending much of his life as an outdoor dog in rural South Carolina. Thankfully, his owners surrendered him to a local shelter, giving him the opportunity for the safe, loving life he deserves. For the past few months, Otis has been living as an inside dog in foster care with multiple dogs and cats. He's gentle and easygoing with other dogs and adores the cats. He’s a live-and-let-live kind of pup and such a sweet soul. Otis is a naturally social Chihuahua who genuinely loves people. Whether he's greeting visitors at home or charming the staff at the vet's office, he's all tail wags and happy energy. He's housetrained and has excellent house manners. Rather than using a crate, his foster mom leaves her dogs in a cozy laundry room equipped with a video camera, comfy beds, toys, water bowls, and all the comforts of home. Like many dogs, he's a little anxious when left alone, but he takes comfort in the company of his canine companions and will settle down. While Otis walks nicely on leash, he's not looking to be your jogging partner. He prefers leisurely strolls and can be a little timid in unfamiliar environments. His adopters should be mindful that he may be a flight risk during the adjustment period. Once he's comfortable, though, he becomes deeply attached to his people and wants nothing more than to be close to them. Like many rescue dogs, Otis simply needs a little time to build trust and gain confidence. Once he feels safe, his sweet, affectionate personality truly shines. He loves all the comforts of home - soft beds, cozy blankets, and warm laps. He's a devoted little companion who considers himself a professional lap dog and is happiest curled up next to his favorite person. Note: When Otis came into our care, he tested positive for heartworm and was overdue for a dental. Since then, he's completed heartworm treatment, had a dental, and is now up to date on all veterinary care.
