About Demi’s Breed:
Our best guess is that Demi is a Maltese. The Maltese is a gentle, affectionate, people oriented companion breed known for forming deep bonds with their humans and wanting to be close as much as possible. They’re small, expressive, and loyal, with a soft, sweet temperament that makes them wonderful lap dogs and devoted shadows around the home.
Their ideal home is one that offers consistent companionship, a calm environment, and lots of closeness, since Maltese dogs thrive when they can be near their people. They do well in apartments or houses, with adopters who appreciate a cuddly, attentive dog and can provide gentle structure, regular grooming, and predictable daily routines. Maltese are typically great for families who enjoy a loving, people focused dog and can give them the attention they crave.
What to Love about Demi:
Demi is the definition of a “shadow dog,” quietly padding behind you from room to room, always wanting to be part of whatever you’re doing. While she’s polite and tolerant with other dogs, but she’s not usually interested in joining the pack; her preferred spot is right next to you on the couch, soaking up affection and keeping tabs on her favorite human! She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but just go slow and your patience will be rewarded with her love and affection! Demi enjoys watching the world from the window and may give a correctable growl when dogs pass by, but she responds well to gentle redirection. She has also met a cat and, after some initial sniffing, was respectful and calm — a promising sign for homes with feline friends.
Demi is potty trained and crate trained and does well in her crate when you have to leave the house. Daily walks are one of Demi’s greatest joys. She prances down the street with enthusiasm, sniffing everything and taking in the world with bright curiosity. On the way out she zigzags with excitement, so her adopter will need to stay aware of her tiny frame, but on the way home she walks straight and focused, as if she knows exactly where she’s headed. She doesn’t need a fenced in yard as long as she has her daily walks.
Because she can become a bit possessive of her humans — especially when being held — she’d do best with older, calmer kids and an adopter who can provide consistent, gentle correction when she growls to “claim” her person. This behavior is manageable and improves with clear boundaries.
At home, Demi is equal parts couch potato and companion. She loves curling up beside you, burrowing into blankets, and being part of your daily rhythm. She’s a bit picky about her food, but she’s otherwise an easy, affectionate little dog who wants nothing more than to be loved, included, and close. For someone looking for a loyal, people focused companion who will follow them anywhere and snuggle up whenever possible, Demi is the perfect match!
