Name: Northern Star Best Guess for Breed: Retriever mix, some lab in there Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of May 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 39 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Special Adoption Considerations: In certain home settings -- where the environment might be loud or more intense -- this dog would do better with another dog in the home to give her confidence. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Northern Star is Looking For: Her home on Earth, where she gets long sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures her humans can dream up! See, being a guiding light for so long was nice and all that but outer space is so cold and can be boring at times. So now she's all about making pup and people pals, snuggles with her humans after a fun day together, quality kibble, a cushy dog bed... you get it! In exchange, she promises love and loyalty for all her days. What do you say? Can you see this Northern Star by your side rather than through a telescope? What My Foster Says About Me: She is settling in well with her foster family. She's a bit timid and doesn't like to be approached quickly, but with gentleness and care by both humans and dogs. She is comfortable in the crate, and so far hasn't had any accidents in the foster's home. She loves pets and cuddling and is starting to play with toys too! Special adoption considerations: Northern Star is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Northern Star has completed her treatment and is past the recovery period, so she is ready to participate in a regular active lifestyle! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
