Meet Sammy — President of the Neighborhood Watch Committee Sammy is a young German Shepherd mix whose favorite hobbies include supervising other dogs, chasing toys and balls and splashing around in the pool. She came to the shelter with her brother, Major and according to her previous owner, she was house trained, loved car rides, had basic obedience training, didn’t try to escape, and was friendly with adults, kids, dogs, and EVEN cats. Basically, Sammy is trying very hard to qualify as everyone’s best friend.This social butterfly seems very dog friendly and spent plenty of time happily greeting dogs through the fence. She’ll chase toys and balls with great enthusiasm… but picking them up afterward feels unnecessary and frankly beneath her job description. She’s much more interested in keeping tabs on what the other dogs are doing anyway. She also enjoys wading around in a kiddie pool like a tiny lifeguard on break.Sammy already knows sit, stay, and come and takes treats gently. But if you’re carrying high-value treats, she may suddenly become your extremely close personal assistant.On leash, Sammy does fairly well but can still be a little jumpy and enthusiastic. She’s young, smart, energetic, and would thrive with continued training and structure. The good news is she’s incredibly food motivated, which means she’s likely to learn quickly as long as payment is delivered in snacks.Sammy would love an active home with adventures, dog friends, continued learning, pool access, and humans who appreciate a goofy, social shepherd mix with big opinions about treats and absolutely no interest in personal space when snacks are involved.
