Jethro and Elly May were raised on a ranch. Their owner could no longer afford to feed them and took them to the shelter. We believe they are full siblings, Great Pyrenees mixes, but Jethro looks like he has some Anatolian shepherd in him as well. They were put on the euthanasia list - only due to overcrowding. We stepped in and pulled them out one hour before they were scheduled to be put down. Elly May was very sick, and Jethro was extremely stressed out. It took time and excellent medical care but they pulled through and settled in well. They are now healthy, fixed, and all shots are up to date. Elly May is about 65 pounds, Jethro is 80-85 lbs. She is a goofy princess, he is a big, lovable galumph.
They are a bonded pair — very sweet, cuddly, and gentle with people, although we would recommend older kids. We don't know whether they were previously used to guard livestock, but they are well-suited for it — extremely smart, independent, and trainable. They love chew toys and running around outdoors. They have not been in the car much, and can be hesitant to get in, but they are very chill once they're inside. They are good in the house, fully house trained, but they love being outdoors, and are natural guardians. They are always curious and love to go new places and do new things. If kept purely as pets, they will need lots of exercise and/or a lot of space to roam and patrol. They do poorly when confined, due to their shelter trauma - they are not crate dogs. They do have a prey drive and would likely require training before being let loose around cats or smaller animals.
They are the absolute sweetest and will make incredibly loving, loyal additions to your household. Please call us at 323-610-7002 or email: information@comeandstay.org - and if you leave a message, please note that you are calling about Jethro and Elly May.
