Our family is looking to find the right placement for our dog, Bodhi, a 4½-year-old Labrador mix (he’ll turn 5 in November).
We adopted Bodhi about four years ago from a family that was rehoming him, and he has been a loving part of our household. He is housebroken, affectionate with his people, and excellent on leash—he absolutely loves going for walks. He knows several commands including sit, down, “bed,” up, let’s go, wait, leave it, and drop it. He settles well in our home and sleeps through the night.
Bodhi has environmental allergies that we manage with veterinary care, including immunotherapy injections, prescription food, occasional Cytopoint injections, medicated baths, and ear drops when needed. With this routine care he does well.
Like many labs, Bodhi is very food-motivated and can be opportunistic around food (counter surfing or getting into trash if accessible). We are typically able to redirect him easily by shooing him away or using commands. However, he has shown sensitivity if he is grabbed suddenly while investigating things like trash or vomit. Because of this, we avoid physically grabbing him in those situations and instead use redirection. For this reason, we believe Bodhi would do best in a home with older children or adults who are comfortable with these management strategies.
He can also be somewhat impulsive and experiences some separation anxiety when away from his family, which we currently manage with veterinarian-prescribed medication. Bodhi can do well with other dogs given slow introductions and respectful space.
Sadly, we feel we are no longer able to provide the calm, structured environment that would allow Bodhi to thrive. We have two young children (ages 5 and 8), and our home can be quite active with kids and their friends. We believe Bodhi would do best in a quieter household where he can receive more consistent attention and structure.
This has been a very difficult decision for us because Bodhi truly is a sweet dog, we love him, he loves us and we care deeply about his future. **** Breed: Lab Mix **** Pet Link: https://www.nokillnetwork.org/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2195571&flag=1
