Hello!!! My name is Charlie and I am a 6 year old Staffordshire/Labrador who LOVES LIFE! Let me tell you a few more details about me....I have been with my current adoptive mom since I was a small puppy. I love being her helper when it comes to loving and playing with her 2 kids, 8 and 5 years old. I just love these two kids and it's going to be a big move for me to join another family. That being said, my mom is dedicated to making sure that I find a loving adopter who will treasure me as much as she has. I have lived successfully with children and have consistently shown gentle, affectionate, and patient behaviour with them. They have shown similar behaviours with me. I genuinely enjoy being part of family life! I am a medium-sized dog (48 lbs) with a strong, athletic build and an even bigger heart. I am energetic, loyal, and deeply people-oriented, forming strong bonds with those I trust. Once I feel safe, I am cuddly and licky, always eager to be close and share affection. Yes, I can become over-energized in stimulating or unfamiliar situations, and this sometimes shows up as jumping when I first meet people — something that I'm working on changing. Once my initial excitement settles, I become calm, attentive, and very responsive to human connection.I am food-driven, which makes me receptive to training and structure. I do best with clear routines and confident handling, and I thrive when expectations are consistent. My leash reactivity to other dogs appears to be related to over-arousal and nervousness in stimulating environments, and is currently managed through avoidance of stressful situations. With continued postiive reinforcement training and appropriate management, I can continue to make progress. I would be best suited to a single-dog home with an experienced, calm owner who understands my exuberance and can continue working with me at a comfortable pace. I'm looking forward to my new adopter being able to help me with this. I currently do best in a home with access to a secure, fenced yard where I can safely burn off energy without stressful leash encounters. I know I am deeply loved by my humans and this rehoming decision has been made with my best interests at heart. They keep telling me that I have so much to offer the right person — unwavering loyalty, affection, and a true companion bond. Perhaps you are that person?!Energy Level: Moderate, with some bursts of energy as well as times when I'm a couch potatoI get along with:Dogs: noCats: noKids: I have lived with respectful young kids and have always been gentle with all humans.Training: Leash skills: I'm still working on these skills, partly because I get so excited when out walking.House trained: Yes, but please continue to guide me in my new home.Health Notes:I have been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. My adoption fee is $600.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
