Bart and his sister, Lisa, were only about 3 months old when they were found as abandoned strays. Both were suffering from malnutrition, loaded with worms and parasites and suffering from loss of fur. They were very apprehensive of people and spent their first few weeks here doing their best to avoid us.
Here's what his foster mom has to say about him!
This sweet boy is shy, but give him a confident canine buddy, and you’ll see his personality shine.
Bart had a rough start to life. You may remember him as one of the mange puppies found by Scott back in October (2nd photo). Now his fur has grown back and he's healthy and ready for his forever home.
Bart absolutely loves other dogs. At only 35 pounds, Bart is on the smaller size. But he gets along well with bigger or smaller dogs. He plays gently, shares toys and bones, and is wonderfully respectful of other dogs’ boundaries. At his foster home he takes his cues from other dogs, following them around and always sleeping nearby. The moment he sees another pup getting love and pets, he comes trotting right over to join in. Seeing other dogs trust people helps him feel safe enough to do the same
Bart's housetraining is improving. He gets excited as soon as his leash and harness come out, and stands perfectly still while you put it on. Or he will just as easily follow another dog outside into a fenced yard and back in again after his business is done. He's not quite ready for long walks around the neighborhood, but his confidence is growing daily.
He does great in a crate when you’re out, and at night he’s a cuddle bug who sleeps peacefully through the night in bed with his people and doggy companions.
His perfect home:
A calm, patient environment with another well-socialized dog who can show him the ropes and help him build confidence.
With the right buddy by his side, this shy pup blossoms into a loving, loyal companion. Could that be your home?
Bart is neutered & has now received 3 of his first year "puppy" vaccines, been de-wormed at proper intervals and even started on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Bart will require all of his basic training.
