Sweetie Pie | 5-Year-Old Foxhound | Happy Prancer with a Big Heart
Sweetie Pie is a 65-pound brown-and-white Foxhound who lives up to his name in every way. He’s a big, beautiful, friendly, loving, faithful goofball—the very best kind there is.
He’s reliably house trained, typically standing by the door when he needs to go out, and has had little to no accidents in his foster home. Like any dog adjusting to a new environment, though, a few accidents can happen as he settles in. On leash, he does fairly well—he may pull a bit at times, but overall enjoys his walks and is always eager to get out and explore. When left home alone for a few hours, he’s been a perfect angel.
This friendly guy does great with other dogs of all sizes and truly enjoys canine companionship. He hasn’t been tested with cats or children yet, but he’s generally easygoing and affectionate with everyone he meets. He may be crate trained, but it’s not his favorite place—he’ll let you know by crying—so a home that doesn’t rely heavily on crating would be ideal.
Sweetie Pie has a higher energy level and absolutely needs a large, securely fenced yard where he can run and stretch his legs. He does have a bit of that classic hound wanderlust, so he’ll need a home where he isn’t left unattended in the yard and his adventures are safely supervised. Now that he’s completed heartworm treatment, he’s ready to live the active life he was born for—long walks, hikes, runs, and car rides are all right up his alley.
He adores water—give him a kiddie pool and he’s in heaven. He’ll splash, roll around, and may even decide it’s the perfect place for a nap (yes, really). He also loves to eat and is always enthusiastic about mealtime.
Sweetie Pie knows several commands, including stay, wait, and leave it, and responds well to structure and boundaries. He’s playful, affectionate, and known for prancing around happily before flopping over for belly rubs whenever he gets the chance. He’s also a low shedder and, despite loving food, tends to graze rather than gulp his meals.
Sweetie Pie would do best in an active home—ideally with other dogs and possibly kids—where he can get plenty of companionship, affection, and exercise. He came to us as a surrender from North Carolina and is more than ready to bring his joyful, water-loving energy to a forever family.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!
