If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a huge heart, this gal may be the perfect match. Sweet Pea is a petite, affectionate dog with enough love, enthusiasm, and personality for a dog twice her size, and she greets her favorite people with the sweetest "tippy toes" happy dance. She is a little bit goosey in the best possible way-silly, playful, and sometimes hilariously unaware of her own enthusiasm. When she's happy, her whole body seems to celebrate, from her wiggly feet to her non-stop wagging tail. She walks beautifully on a leash, knows how to sit, stay, down, "go get your toy," "drop it," and is comfortable in her crate. Fetch is one of her absolute favorite activities and she also loves to play hide-and-seek and spend time with her family. She does great with cats and has gotten along with every dog she's met so far. Sweet Pea loves to play and would likely enjoy a patient playful canine companion. She can be very enthusiastic during play and social interaction and is still learning when other dogs need a break, so she does best with dogs that can handle her fun, energetic style.
Like any dog, Sweet Pea comes with a few things her future family should know. She can be protective of food and toys around other dogs, so thoughtful management and supervision during feeding and play times are important. She will also appreciate people who understand dog body language and cues and can recognize when she needs space, reassurance, or redirection. She will likely do best in a home with older children and adults who will respect her boundaries. She thrives when given both mental and physical exercise through training, enrichment, games, and active play. We are also working on her excitement when meeting people as she sometimes jumps up to say hello because she is happy to see them. Most importantly, Sweet Pea can not have plush or soft toys due to having surgery after swallowing part of one, so she must have only durable, hard-to-destroy toys. Give her love, structure, patience, and a good game of fetch, and she will reward you with endless loyalty, laughter, happy tail wags, and her adorable tippy toes happy dance. At her core, she just wants affection and connection with her people
Sweet Pea's adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, microchip, current vaccines/heartworm test and a free training course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha. If you would like to meet Sweet Pea, please submit an adoption application through our website, Adopthope.org. Last Hope requires that adopters have a history of keeping their pets; altered, kept current on all vaccines/annual vet care and kept as indoor pets only. Our adoption process includes a vet history check and a home visit.
