Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Kira!
Kira is an adorable, happy, bouncy girl who loves to go on walks or hikes, play fetch, and just be by her person’s side.
Kira is a volunteer favorite, and s
he is up for any adventure that our volunteers take her on, from walks around Liberty Station to agility to paddle boarding.
She rides well in the car, either in the backseat or in a crate.
And better yet, she walks well on leash
, freque
ntly staying right at your side. She has mastered basic
cues like sit, down, stay, and touch.
She is treat motivated and
smart enough to learn new skills quickly.
Kira is an active dog and needs someone willing to keep up with her need for daily exercise and mental stimulation. However, she’s also a very affectionate dog. She loves to cuddle
and will even stop in the middle of a walk for belly rubs. One of her favorite things is new volunteer orientation day, because that means she gets as much attention, affection, and fetch that she wants. In fact, she may love fetch a little too much and won’t always return the ball, but if you have a second ball ready to throw, the game will continue until she’s wiped out.
Kira has been with the rescue since February 2023,
when we received an urgent plea from SEACCA about a very sick dog. A
s a highly intelligent and active dog, she has become stressed
after years
in boarding. Because of that, she can be overstimulated by fast movement such as motorcycles or joggers, and she may pull on leash or spin in excitement. She can have a hard time relaxing after a stressful event, so she needs someone who understands this and will take it slow, giving her breaks or taking her home to decompress when needed.
Kira does well with dogs who match her exuberant,
wrestling
play style. She is an in-the-face greeter, and that paired with her play style means she is not the perfect match for every dog.
Kira bonds hard with her favorite people and is happiest when she is near them. She is friendly overall, though can be nervous with people approaching too directly, so she needs low-pressure meetings where she can sniff and choose to engage. Because of this and her bouncy nature,
Kira would do best in an adult home
or with older, considerate kids.
