Breed History

Developed in the American South, primarily in Georgia, during the late 18th and early 19th centuries by Scottish immigrants. Created from red-colored Irish Foxhounds and Bloodhounds to produce a fast, hot-nosed hound for trailing and treeing raccoons and larger game. The breed name is attributed to early breeder Peter Redbone. Recognized by the AKC in 2009.
