Breed History

Developed in the mountains of North Carolina by German immigrant Johannes Georg Plott from German Hanoverian Schweisshunds brought in the 1750s. Perfected over generations for big-game hunting in the Appalachian Mountains. The only coonhound breed not descended from foxhounds and official state dog of North Carolina.
