Breed History

One of the four Swiss Sennenhund breeds, this ancient breed from the Appenzell region was used for centuries as an all-purpose farm dog for herding cattle, guarding property, and pulling carts. Formally established in the late 19th century through the efforts of forester Max Siber and Professor Albert Heim.
